Dog Training – Basic Obedience

At The Balanced Canine, we view dog training as a holistic process. Whether it's an aggressive, fearful, or simply unruly dog, our goal is to identify the root of the problem and work purposefully towards its resolution.

Basic obedience is a valuable tool for daily communication and cooperation with our dog. It's not just about training – it's about mutual understanding.

What does basic obedience include?

The dog learns to respond to commands such as:

  • Heel
  • Sit
  • Down
  • Stay
  • Come

For example, the command "Heel" can enable them to walk calmly beside us when we cross the street. A dog that understands these basic commands is more cooperative, safer, and easier to manage.

Is basic obedience always enough?

Not always. Very often, obedience alone is not enough.
Let's look at some examples:

Dog with fear or insecurity

If the dog has insufficient socialization, they may be afraid of people, animals, or sounds. In this case, before proceeding to teach commands, it is essential to work on the stimuli that cause them fear, gradually building their confidence.

Dog with aggressive behavior

If the cause behind the aggression is not identified, basic obedience will not have the desired outcome. First, proper assessment and management of the causes are needed, and then we can proceed to the remaining steps of training.

Each case is unique

There isn’t one “recipe” for all dogs.
Every dog needs:

  • Personalized assessment, depending on their character, behaviors, and overall condition

  • Specialized training plan, designed together with their guardian

  • Holistic approach, with respect for their needs and capabilities

At The Balanced Canine, we build relationships based on trust and work towards a balanced and happy dog — not just an "obedient" one.
